Boxy Duffle bag

This pattern can be followed exactly as is but I personally made adjustments which are noted in the supply list. Exchanging making your own fabric straps for webbing straps is less expensive and makes for more durable straps for carrying when the bag is heavier. Foam interfacing is also significantly more costly that using quilt batting and quilting your fabric pieces with that and the bag is still quite durable and has a nice shape.

Boxy Duffle Bag Pattern

you will need:

  • 1 yard of quilting cotton for the exterior

  • 1 yard of quilting cotton for the interior

  • 1 yard of fabric for the binding and straps (or replace this with 3 yards or 9 feet of webbing for the straps and ½ yard of fabric for binding strips)

  • a 36’’ x 42’’ piece of foam stabilizer, quilt batting, or fusible fleece (this is one yard of quilt batting or 2 yards of fusible fleece)

  • 1/2 yard fusible interfacing for the straps (NOT NEEDED if you use WEBBING for straps)

  • 1 handbag zipper 24’’ or longer (on the site that would be the zipper by the foot option and you would want a 2 foot length or longer zipper)

  • 2 D rings if you would like them for the side tabs

  • fabric pencil

  • a safety pin for turning

  • Matching or contrast thread
