Pouch with Zip tabs

You will want to start with putting tabs on with this simple tutorial for them. Tabs on the end of zippers on bags help a LOT with getting a clean edge on the zipper.

Then gather all your stuff and get started on a cute little quilted zipper pouch.

For this great little beginner project, you will need the following.

  • 1/4 yard outer fabric

  • 1/4 yard inner fabric

  • 1/4 yard batting

  • 1 nylon zipper

  • coordinating thread

  • fresh sewing machine needle

  • Your trusty machine!

NOW…. these bags are not super big. If you buy 3 zippers you can practice this one several times to get really good at it. and BONUS - you can gift some cute bags to your mom, granny, aunties… Want to take it to a new level. Add some embroidery needles and Embroidery floss of choice and before you sew the bag but AFTER you quilt the outer pieces hand embroider a monogram or name or initial on the bag outer.

Want to practice at a higher level after making one or two?

Take your project from beginner to advanced!!

Skip the strait line quilting and try some free motion quilting designs. Here is a video to get you started on understanding free motion quilting better. Look through youtube for more free motion tutorials.

Add some tags to your cart too, for a finished look. If you choose a flat tag, you sew it on the outer piece before assembly and a folded side tag you pin in place inside the seam before sewing the sides up. All the small details matter and take your project from wow to WOW!
